@Sam Lung yes exactly agreed! It would be great to have the wider screen in the next update but I doubt Samsung is going to do that just yet. But these new competitors are putting a little pressure and heat on Samsung! So they got to step up!

I am really digging the new folding phones. I have the z fold 3 and am loving it. I love being able to unfold it and immediately have a bigger screen for media consumption or just being on my browser. I am open to New foldable designs, and love seeing the competition. I hope we start to see more designs.

@Arshi K its just for people who want a normal phone with a gimick. I use the large screen on my fold 3 way more then i ever thought i would, and its great. Also in general, the tech with the fold is better, the software is better and the optimization is better. Also this is a china only release.

Team Little Fold for sure. Use it folded for abbreviated interactions (sending a text, checking a quick email, answering a call) and unfolded or semi-folded for extended interaction (sending an email, taking a video call, playing a game). Personally, I want the phone as small as possible for those abbreviated interactions (i.e. optimized for one handed use and pocket-ability), but big enough unfolded so the more sophisticated interactions don't suffer from lack of screen size. This device seems like a really great balance. Hope one like this hits the US markets soon. Thanks for the video.

I never really thought much about the little fold before. But it's a good point. Maybe it would work well. I'd really have to try one out for a little while to see how well the folded over form handled things like texting. I guess I'm wondering if the keyboard is ok to use when folded. Maybe it is fine.

I feel the small adjustments that makes the front screen look and feel like a proper phone and the inner screen a reasonably sized yet very usable tablet are some solid improvements and will convince more people that this is how phones are going to be as we move forward.

Oppo did with the Find N what I expected from Samsung to do with the Fold 3. After two iterations Samsung still carries over the flaws of the Fold 1, just tweaking things instead of changing them. Oppo did not just catch up to Samsung with this foldable, they run circles around them.

Unpopular opinion, as a Z Fold 3 owner i LOVE its more thin form when folded. It feels way better to use one-handed which is what the closed version really ough to be used for, and it's much more ergonomic and comfortable to hold when making phone calls for instance. If you want a regular phone that then folds you might as well just get a regular phone. This design while it may suit some I see as a jack of all master of none design whereas the z fold series fully embraces the dual use model and soecialized each screen and their size for it.

  • dreu dax

    dreu dax

I can see the z fold three being better suited to more people than the regular fold. However I an also see me taking the oppo fold over it if i was ever to use a fold. However I am not going to baby my phone, and I cannot use oled screens. So my only options are midrange phones. EDIT: I meant the samsung z flip not the z fold.

The smaller size does seem like it would be easier to use overall. I just wouldn't use a folding phone. I feel like I'd never use a tablet folder open enough to justify the expense. The clamshells are cute and all, but when I need to use my phone, I don't need the extra hassle of unfolding it. I appreciate the technology, but i don't see it being that useful for me until and unless we get to the "global" design used in the show "Earth: Final Conflict." Even then, it wasn't so much a foldable phone as one that could deploy and contract. Very cool tech, and we're closer to it than I'd have thought we'd get when I first saw it, but we're not there yet.

Glad to see Samsung have Competition. I like my Fold 3 but that battery life is abysmal for power users. A simple fix would be to give us even more control over the refresh rate and battery saving features. I don't need 120 Hz on the cover screen and only time I want to see 120 hz on the main screen is while gaming.

  • js0823

After watching/reading about this phone, I think there are two main points that everyone is talking about: the crease and the form factor. 1. Crease: Oppo is using Samsung's foldable display. Oppo claimed they developed a new way to remove the crease, and it turns out Oppo chose to fold via "Waterdrop" shape method. That is, instead of folding the display like ">", Oppo folds like "=O", creating a round shape at the end of the fold instead of folding in half. This method was actually implemented on Motorola's new Razr 3 years ago, so it is not new, and this method has a problem of making a "W" shaped crease and eventually making the display look like a wave. This was the reason why Samsung decided to go with ">" fold at the time. We don't know if Samsung's new foldable display has been upgraded, or Oppo found a solution to the wavy crease. 2. Form factor: This is really personal preference. Oppo decided to choose normal wide display when folded and a square display when unfolded, while Samsung went with having ultra wide display when folded and a wide display when unfolded. Oppo's form factor looks great as it is smaller and seems to make sense, but it really starts to annoy you once you unfold and start using the square display as all video clips now days are wide/ultra wide. Oppo has tons of work to do in this front to make sure every app/videos work with their square display. Samsung, on the other hand, has no problem on this front, but user needs to get used to ultra wide front display. Samsung most likely thought many fold users would buy it to watch video in full screen mode, thus wide display support is important. Also, Samsung needs to make sure Fold and Flip do not cross each other.

I hope Apple goes this route design wise with their inevitable folding phone. I love my 13 mini and if it folded out to double the size it would literally be perfect.

I like OPPO's interpretation of foldable phones... small usable phones that transform into big phones if required.

I definitely like this design better. The limiting dimension of a phone screen is the width so a shorter wider outside screen is a win for me. Not having to turn the phone to it's side for landscape mode on the inside screen is also a plus.

  • slicknick29

Apparently when apps open on the inner display they auto rotate anyway so you still have to turn it. Linus Tech Tips covered that in his video today.

I LOVE my Z Fold2, and I never want to go back to a non-folding phone. I almost exclusively open it up every time I interact with it, unless it's a phone call. I love the big screen. However, I'm really liking the shorter height size that Oppo is doing with theirs. I'm def looking forward to what Samsung does with the Z Fold4, even though it's unlikely that they would shorten the height on it. Can't wait to see how much the folding phones improve over the years.

I really hope Samsung follows some of these changes that Oppo has put into this phone. A fold 4 with some of these changes may be what finally gets me into foldables.

i hope they stick to the big phone that gets bigger concept , I dont really get the point of unfolding a mini phone to get almost the same screen as a big candy bar phone that most are already used to nowadays, May be a as a seperate mini fold ok , but i want my phone to unfold into a big ass screen ,

This is the first folding phone I'd consider ever getting. Much more appealing than the Samsung.

Actually, the price is lower. The price for entry-level spec (8G +256G) is 7699 RMB, which is around 1207 USD. The highest-end (12G+512G) is 8999RMB=1411USD.

I'm enjoying my Pixel 6 Pro but am slightly regretting not doing more research and getting a Fold. I might go for the Fold in a few years when I decide it's time to upgrade though. By that time I bet the tech and the form factor will be even better.

The format of the screen is very nostalgic for me, I like the compact format, not like those of today, all elongated.

  • Michael

This looks like a fantastic and very ergonomic size, especially for the front display. Bring back smaller phones!

I've been saying this for years! I also liked the 16:9 aspect ratio of older phones, but that might just be me.

Love it 😀 The Oppo Find N will be available in China starting on December 23. Pricing is incredibly attractive at the equivalent of RMB7,699($1,200/€1070) for the 8GB/256GB version and RMB8,999 ($1,410/€1240) for the 12GB/512GB units. The sad part is Oppo doesn't plan on launching the Find N in overseas markets.

This is a step in the right direction for foldables. As for the different screen refresh rates, I personally think a better option would have been to go with 90Hz on both screens. That seems like the best compromise.

I would love to see a Tri-folding phone concept. I don't mind a thicker phone, as long as that means a bigger screen when open. Because with this one I feel that when open, video size would be the same as when closed and rotated, so I don't see the purpose of it.

@Astra Cruiser Henry it still has hiccups , I pre-ordered the F3 and have been using it since it came out, Front screen is kinda thin (would love it if the increase its thickness just 2mm, which I use a lot, rear screen is nice, the phone kinda gets mild to hot but I thought Samsung fixed this issue My pros and cons: 1. Pen works great, I love to sketch, and man it's nice 2. snap doesn't work well, my vids and pics have black bars in them, in both front and rear ( makes my video suck to look at with any other phone) 3. some app optimization is required, sometimes the apps get way too huge that I wish I can zoom out a bit (like 80% instead of 100% cause I wanna see more information and not huge thumbnails) 4. EXPENSIVE 5. when sketching u must be careful not to damage the screen cause its expensive 6. Sometimes when doing detail sketching I must move the canvas out of the middle portion cause it will jiggle the line cause of the folding screen dent thingy that's it , it's surely not for everyone but man, so hard to buy a regular non-folding phone after this, soon competition will be upon us and I bet all of these kinks will disappear so many cons but it fits my needs and I love it (big screen, pen)
